Play Like a Girl+ Piedmont*

Empowering Girls+ to Play SportsTIOTS

The City of Piedmont is hosting its third annual Play Like a Girl Piedmont event on Sunday, May 5th, at Piedmont High School's Witter Field.

It's no surprise to you that girls who play sports have better standardized test results than non athletes or that female athletes go on to earn 7% higher annual wages in their non-athlete peers. Sports also help boost self-esteem, and PRD's goal with Play Like a Girl+ is to empower, support and teach them that ANYTHING is achievable.

This event is a fun interactive day of getting girls ages 2–18 pumped up to try out new sports. Athletes and coaches from approximately 20 different sports organizations will be offering hands-on activities so girls in our community can practice pitching, throwing, hitting, shooting, and so much more!  This year's event will feature live demonstrations, professional and Olympic athletes, giveaways, and fabulous raffle prizes.

Professional, Olympic & Paralympic Athletes

Don't miss the chance to meet the amazing athletes who will be demonstrating their sport as well as participating in the Q&A on the center stage! PLaG+ Attendees are encouraged to bring questions, wonderings and curiosities!

Dalia "La Pantera" Gomez, Professional Boxer
Dana Vollmer-Grant, 5-time Olympic Gold Medalist (Swimming)
Tamara Holmes, Professional Female Baseball Player
Bethany Zummo, 2-time Paralympic Gold Medalist (Sitting Volleyball)

New Event Features

Firefighter Fitness: The Piedmont Fire Department and Tamara Holmes of the Oakland Fire Department will host the Firefighting Fitness station so girls+ can actively see what it takes to be a firefighter!

Sports Equipment Swap: PRD has partnered with Dress Best for Less to offer a brand-new portion to the event. NEW this year — bring your gently used sports equipment (no clothing please e.g. socks, jerseys, etc.) that is too small, or your child no longer plays and take home an item for a new sport or the next size up! Each child that donates to the Sports Equipment Swap will be entered into a special raffle.
