On July 19, 2021, the City Council approved an agreement with the University of Texas, San Antonio to conduct an analysis of calls for service which police officers respond to and determine the frequency of potentially biased-based calls from the public which lack specific criminal related behavior as a basis for police intervention.
It’s healthy for any organization to assess how it is delivering the essential services or responding to those who use its services. Our goal with this project was to obtain facts and data to help in our ongoing community conversations about policing locally.
Our department is pleased to announce that the analysis has been completed and the researchers are coming to Piedmont to present their findings, recommendations, and answer questions from the community. We invite you to review the UTSA Report and participate in this important discussion as we work together in an effort to create a safer more inclusive community, free of bias and discrimination.
The meeting will take place on Monday, May 23rd at 7:00 pm in the City Council Chambers. The public is invited to attend in-person or virtually by accessing the following link: https://piedmont-ca-gov.zoom.us/j/85724503313.
