PRD Summer Preview: What’s new in sports camps
Reminder: Summer program registration opens Feb. 3 for residents (non-residents Feb. 10)
Starting planning your summer with the Piedmont Recreation Department! PRD’s Summer 2026 Activity Guide will be published online January 26, with resident registration opening Tuesday, February 3 at 6pm. Non-resident registration will follow a week later at 6pm on Tuesday, February 10.
This installment of PRD’s summer preview series highlights new additions to sports programming for 2026, building on our traditional full lineup of youth sports camps throughout the summer.
PRD offers dozens of youth sports camps for a wide range of ages, abilities and interests throughout the summer, covering everything from longtime favorites like soccer and basketball to less ubiquitous options like lacrosse, pickleball, fencing, and ultimate frisbee.
What’s new for summer 2026 sports programming
Teen coaching certificate camps in soccer and basketball
New this summer, teens can earn a coaching certificate through Make Me a Pro in two dedicated programs for ages 15-17. These camps are designed for teens who enjoy working with younger athletes and want to build leadership skills, learn how to run practices, and gain hands-on experience in a coaching role.
Two sessions will be offered: Soccer Teen Coaching Certification (June 8-12) and Basketball Teen Coaching Certification (August 3-7). Participants who complete the program will be considered for Make Me a Pro volunteer coach opportunities, offering a pathway to additional on-field experience.
Tennis program welcomes new instructor Jeff Machle
Tennis programming will expand this summer with the addition of longtime Piedmont resident Jeff Machle to our roster of PRD instructors. Machle is in his third season as Head Tennis Coach at The College Preparatory School and brings deep experience teaching youth players and competitive athletes.
Additionally, instructor Jim Landes’s popular beginning and advanced tennis clinics will return throughout the summer.
How to register
Registration opens February 3 for residents on at piedmont.ca.gov/CommunityPass. New participants will need to create an account to register for programs.
