Starting Saturday, June 20, a portion of the Activity Pool will be available for open swim by reservation Monday through Thursday evenings and Saturday and Sunday mornings - periods when the full Activity Pool had previously been reserved for swim lessons.
Space is limited to 50 people so staff can safely manage both open swim and swim lessons in the Activity Pool at the same time. Reservations are required for use of Activity Pool during these times. There is no charge for reserved spots beyond normal facility entry (drop-in or pass).
Reserved Activity Pool open swim will be available:
- Monday-Thursday: 4:30pm-7pm
- Saturday: 9am-11:30am
- Sunday: 9am-12pm
During reserved open swim, part of the zero-depth area and one to two lanes will be available for open swim. Swim lessons will use the rest of the Activity Pool.
Reservations are not required for the Competition Pool, which will remain available for lap and open swim according to the published schedule. The Activity Pool remains open for non-reserved open swim 57 hours per week.
Reserved open swim periods expands access in response to community feedback
The new reserved open swim periods, created in response to feedback from pool users, restore limited Activity Pool access during high-demand periods while keeping already scheduled swim lessons in place.
Initially, reserved open swim periods are planned to run through Thursday, July 23 as a trial period. Aquatics staff will monitor how it works and may make adjustments as needed to improve access, support programming, and keep the facility safe and welcoming for all users.
Make reservations through Aquatics registration portal
Reservations will open week-by-week on the City’s Aquatics registration portal at rec.us/piedmont. Reservation slots will be listed several weeks out so that community members can add desired dates to their Fast Track cart for faster sign-up when registration opens.
For the first week only, reservations for Saturday, June 20 through Thursday, June 25 will open:
- Passholders: Friday, June 19 at 9am
- Drop-ins, if space remains: Saturday, June 20 at 8am
In subsequent weeks, reservations will open for the following week (Saturday-Thursday) on this schedule:
- Passholders: Thursday at 9am
- Resident drop-ins, if space remains: Fridays at 9am
- Non-resident drop-ins, if space remains: Saturdays at 8am
There is no wait list. If someone cancels, the spot will become available again for sign-up. The number of available spots will be visible on the reservation page.
Arrive within 30 minutes of reservation start, or tell us when to expect you
People with reservations will check in with Front Desk staff when they arrive. Everyone using the Activity Pool must have a reservation.
By default, reservations will be held for 30 minutes after the reservation start time:
- Monday-Thursday reservations begin at 4:30pm. Reservations will be held until 5pm.
- Saturday-Sunday reservations begin at 9am. Reservations will be held until 9:30am.
If you plan to arrive later, add your expected arrival time in the note field when you make your reservation. Staff will hold your spot until the time window you provide.
Reservations will be canceled for users who have not checked in within 30 minutes unless they have indicated a later arrival time. This allows staff to make unused spots available to other users.
Weekend warm water lap swim added
Starting June 20, limited weekend morning warm water lap swim will again be available in the Activity Pool:
Expect summer camp groups at the pool
Several Recreation Department camps will use the pool this summer. Community members should expect groups of camp-aged children during these times:
- Camp Everything Pool Days: Tuesdays 12-1pm
- Splash Camp: 9am-1pm during June 15-18, June 22-26, July 6-10
- Splash & Tennis Camp: 9am-12pm during July 13-17 and July 20-24
- Junior Lifeguard Camp: 9am-4pm on July 27-31
The first year of pool operations is a period of learning and adjustment. Recreation staff will continue monitoring pool use and community feedback and make adjustments where possible to balance access, programming, safety, and the needs of different pool users.
