Moraga Avenue pedestrian safety project
Summary: This project will make pedestrian safety improvements to the intersections of Moraga Avenue with Ramona Avenue, Monticello Avenue, and Mesa Avenue.
Status
Why this project?
The Mesa/Moraga intersection was identified as the highest priority location for pedestrian safety enhancements citywide in the City's 2021 Safer Streets Plan, which prioritized intersections were prioritized based on proximity to a school, being on an arterial street, and being part of a bike/bus route.
Moraga Avenue is one of few arterial roadways within the City of Piedmont eligible for regional transportation funding.
The planned improvements incorporated data-supported best practices in pedestrian safety.
Project Description
This project will install:

bulb-outs and high visibility crosswalk striping at the intersection of Ramona & Moraga

a landscaped pedestrian refuse island and high visibility crosswalk striping at the intersection of Monticello & Moraga

bulb-out and flashing beacons at the intersection of Mesa & Moraga. At this intersection, the crosswalk will also be re-positioned for improved visibility
